Waterproof Conductivity Meters Product Description

The Cond 1970i Waterproof Conductivity Meters enable you to carry out conductivity measurements rapidly and reliably.  The waterproof conductivity meter provides the maximum degree of operating comfort, reliability and measuring certainty for all applications.  The waterproof conductivity meters combine everything you want for water, wastewater, and environmental monitoring.  Like all the 1970 series water quality meters the Cond 1970i waterproof conductivity meters are nearly indestructible with both hose down proof (IP 66) and submersible (IP 67) ratings.  But the Cond 1970i waterproof conductivity meters are also very accurate, capable and easy to use.  The proven procedures to determine or set up the conductivity cell constant and special AutoRead function of the waterproof conductivity meters enable precision measurements that support your work.  Along with an 800 data point datalogger, a real time clock and recorder output, the Cond 1970i waterproof conductivity meters conform to all GLP requirements.  With its large, easy to read display, carrying/support handle and carrying strap the waterproof conductivity meters go with you wherever you need to do conductivity measurements - even on your bench top.

A conductivity probe is not included with the waterproof conductivity meters.  The waterproof conductivity meter's 8 pin waterproof connector provides for quick connection of one of the conductivity electrodes listed below.  Global Water offers several other conductivity electrodes that are compatible with the waterproof conductivity meter.  Please call us if you need a special purpose conductivity electrode for your waterproof conductivity meter.  NOTE: Always calibrate your waterproof conductivity meter when you add a new conductivity electrode.  Also, if you are using automatic temperature compensation the waterproof conductivity meter will automatically detect the type of temperature being used.  If you don't have a temperature sensor attached to the waterproof conductivity meter or the conductivity electrode does not have an integrated temperature sensor you can manually set the temperature value.  The waterproof conductivity meter compensates for temperature based on a preset reference temperature of 68 °F or 77 °F (20 °C or 25 °C).

The Cond 1970i Waterproof Conductivity Meters ship complete with NiCad rechargeable battery, dual-voltage 110/220 VAC adapter, and neck strap.  The waterproof conductivity meter has an energy saving feature to avoid unnecessary battery depletion.  The energy saving feature switches the waterproof conductivity meter off if no key has been pressed for an hour.

TA 197 LF deep water conductivity cell
The Cond 1970i waterproof conductivity meters are great for measurements in bore holes (down to 2" diameter), wells and deep bodies of water with the ability to take measurements down to 330 ft (100 m) in combination with the TA 197 LF depth armature.  The TA 197 LF waterproof conductivity cell includes a built-in temperature sensor, up to 330 feet (100 m) cable with waterproof plug (IP 67), pressure-resistant steel armoring with screw-off protective hood, and is pressure-resistant to 145 psi (10 bar).

TetraCon® 325 Conductivity Probe
The TetraCon® 4-electrode system sets a new standard for professional conductivity measurements.  In comparison with conventional measuring cells with 2 electrodes, the TetraCon® 325 conductivity cell offers numerous technical advantages for your waterproof conductivity meters:
  • Highly accurate and linear because of optimized cell geometry
  • Extremely large measuring range with just one cell
  • Long-term cell constant stability with high-quality abrasion-resistant graphite electrodes
  • Built-in temperature sensor as standard
  • Smallest immersion depth possible
  • Automatic resistance compensation provides accurate measurements even with a dirty electrode
  • Measurement not affected by cable influences, polarization effects or contact with side walls
  • Robust, unbreakable epoxy body
conductivity measurement chart
Conductivity meter measurements
Conductivity is a parameter used to measure the ionic concentration and activity of a solution.  The more salt, acid or alkali in a solution, the greater its conductivity.  The waterproof conductivity meter measures conductivity in units of S/m or, often, S/cm.  The scale for aqueous solutions begins with pure water at a conductivity of 0.05 uS/cm (77 °F /25°C).  Naturally occurring waters such as drinking water or surface water have a conductivity in the range 100 – 1000 uS/cm.  At the upper end of the chart some acids and alcalines can be found.

Conductivity measurements are used for a wide variety of applications including the production of ultrapure water and determining the salinity of sea water.

Conductivity is measured by using the waterproof conductivity meter and conductivity probe to make a measurement of the electrical resistance.  The simplest kind of measuring cell used consists of two similar electrodes.  An alternating voltage applied to one of the electrodes causes the ions in the solution to migrate towards the other electrodes.  The more ions in the solution, the greater the current which flows between the electrodes.  The waterproof conductivity meters measure the current and uses Ohm's law to calculate first the conductance of the solution and then – by taken the cell data into account – the conductivity.

Waterproof conductivity meter applications
The ProfiLine Cond 1970i waterproof conductivity meters will work well in ground water, surface water, laboratory, food industry (juice), swimming pools, pharmaceutics, paint/varnish (soluble), or electorplating measurement applications.
